Meet our Featured Artist - Abeer Anabtawi

Hi Abeer! Could you tell us a bit about yourself - where you're from, where you're based now, and what kind of work you do?

Hi Tsuno! I'm Abeer Anabtawi — branding and design manager by day, and freelance designer and illustrator by... well, day and night! I'm Jordanian with Palestinian roots, and my work covers everything from food and beverage branding to wedding invites to personal passion projects.

What influences or inspires your artistic style? Are there themes or symbols you often find yourself returning to?

For starters, I'd say my own feelings, which I think a lot of people relate to, is my main source of inspiration. Further than that, I'm inspired by my culture, by the people around me, by observing. A lot of patterns, symmetry and elements I use in my work are things found in Levantine, or Arab in general, architecture and design.

Can you share a bit about the artwork you created for Tsuno? What was your inspiration or thought process behind it?

First of all, it was lovely getting to work on this. The main element in my Tsuno artwork is a star to represent both softness, strength, confidence and shining in your own way. It’s a small tribute to your inner light, and a reminder that you’re always radiant, even on the days you don’t feel it.
How does your cultural heritage shape your creative expression?

My creative expression is simply who I am - so my culture is always there, both consciously and unconsciously. It flows through the Arabic words I incorporate, the lyrics I reference, the geometry of a tile, our delicious delicious food, the warmth, and stories, the joy and the grief. There’s beauty in the nostalgia of the past and in the presence of today, and I try to hold both at once in my work.

What mediums do you most enjoy working with, and why?

At the current time, my iPad goes everywhere with me - so digital is the current medium I prefer.

What’s been a standout moment in your creative journey so far - a favourite project, exhibition, or collaboration?

It's all so special to me, because the whole journey is actually surreal - and unexpected. If I must choose, for now, I would say a recent branding project for a Jordanian coffee capsules brand and a series of three posters that were sold at Jeddah's Biennale 2025.

How do you approach your creative practice during your menstrual cycle? Do you notice shifts in energy or ideas?

My work is mostly inspired by emotion, so I actually don’t mind letting the mood swings and deep feelings — joyful or heavy — that come with my menstrual cycle play a role in my creativity, haha.

What’s something that’s been sparking your creativity lately - eg. a book, a place, a colour, a conversation or anything else?

I think, currently, music from the 90s. Conversations and observations also always spark creativity.

Where can people view or purchase your work, or follow what you're up to?

You can view my work on instagram @abeer.m.anabtawi - that's where everything is!
